Council Statement on Proposed Development at Fairwood Terrace and Traffic Concerns
Published: 09 September 2025
Gowerton Community Council wishes to update residents on the actions we have taken in response to the proposed development at Fairwood Terrace that has raised significant concerns across our community.
We recognise that traffic levels in and around Gowerton have become unprecedented, with congestion originating well beyond the CEM Days area. This pressure on local infrastructure is already affecting daily life, and any further development risks worsening the situation to an unacceptable degree.
We are also extremely concerned about the recent felling of mature trees with no clear accountability—an action that has caused distress among residents and demonstrates a disregard for our local environment.
As a Council, we have taken a proactive stance:
· We have held two well-attended public meetings to hear residents' views and ensure your voices are represented.
· Councillors and members of the public protested at the recent site meeting to show the strength of local opposition.
· We commissioned and fully funded a comprehensive and independent Transport Assessment, which has been submitted as part of our formal objection to the development via the Welsh Government's Planning and Environment Decisions Wales (PEDW) process.
· A health survey was conducted in Mill St and Sterry Road as a direct response to residents’ complaints about cars idling continuously polluting the air with toxic and carcinogenic pollutants. Environmental reports recorded the period of covid years and failed to highlight the silent killer chemicals. This was confirmed at the second public meeting.
This development poses a serious risk of gridlocking Gowerton and would severely impact the quality of life for all who live and work here.
We are committed to transparency and ongoing communication. This statement is part of our effort to keep residents informed and to show clearly that your Council is taking meaningful action on your behalf.
Further updates will be posted on our website as we continue to engage with this process.
