Gowerton Christmas Tree

The idea is sown...

Gowerton Community Councillors thought that it would be a good idea to plant a Christmas Tree in the centre of the village so it could grow and be decorated each year rather than buy a cut tree. We are always thinking of ways to be more environmentally friendly and to reduce our footprint.

We approached Mr Rob Morgan the owner of Gower Fresh Christmas Tree Farm in Three Crosses and much to our delight, Rob offered to donate a Nordman Fir tree free of charge to the village of Gowerton.

Needless to say, we took him up on his very kind offer and our Clerk, Allison, went to collect the tree. Kevin, an employee at Gower Fresh, chose a lovely tree for us and told Allison what to look for when choosing the perfect tree.

The views from the farm are absolutely outstanding. We were told that the sunflowers will be available to visit in the summer to reduce the pressure on the village of Rhossili, where crowds flock to have their photo taken against the vast background of of sunflowers there.

The reindeers can also be seen grazing and make a spectacular sight. During the winter, the farm opens for the Winter Wonderland, where you can feed the reindeer and visit Santa.

The planting takes place....

The next step was to plant the tree in a suitable spot. it was agreed that the triangle of land opposite the library would be the ideal place.

Cllrs Ros Holt, Sue Jones, Amanda Guard and Ann Guard, along with the Clerk, Allison James and Cllrs Holts husband, Tony Holt, all met up to get to work.

Tony expertly dug the hole and planted the tree. It was lovely to see the tree going to its new forever home in the centre of the village. It will take a few years to grow, but we look forward to the day when we can decorate it with lights for everyone in the village to enjoy.

Huge thanks to everyone involved, especially Gower Fresh Christmas Tree Farm, who can be found on Facebook and Instagram for regular updates on Sunflowers, Trees and Christmas events.
