Gowerton Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day 2021

A service by Reverend Alex Pye was arranged in the centre of the village at the flag pole at 11am on 11/11/21. Around 35 people turned up to what will now become an annual service in Gowerton. The flag was flying at half mast while the Last Post was played.

It was a very poignant service and we are hoping to have a bigger turn out next year and will be adding to this event to show our respect on Remembrance Day.

"They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old.

Age shall not weary them, not the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning,

We will remember them"

Remembrance Day 2020

It is important that we continue to remember those who have sacrificed their lives for freedom.

We are encouraging the Community of Gowerton to paint a rock with a poppy and leave it at the commerative bench (provided by Cllr Susan Jones from her County Councillor budget), in the Elba Playing Fields, near Gowerton Primary School.

Cllr Jones has purchased a flag for Rememberance Day and it will be flying as a mark of respect in November.

Cllr's revamp a bench for Remembrance Sunday

Cllr Lyneth Howells and Cllr Viv Davies recently came up with the idea of painting a bench on the bypass to the village.

Ideas of what to paint were discussed at the monthly meeting in October and it was decided that it would be a nice tribute to paint a poppy design for Remembrance Day.

Viv went out to source the supplies and prepared the bench ready for painting, then Lyneth came up with the design and set to work painting it.

As you can see the end result is really eyecatching and we have had so many positive comments from residents in the village.
