72. TO RECEIVE THE REPORT BY THE WARD MEMBER:

Cllr Jones gave the following report:

Monthly Report for November 2020.

Again I have attended many Teams Meetings with Council over the last month.  There have also been Governors Meetings for both the Primary and Secondary School.

This month I have dealt with many issues e.g. Testing of Staff in hospitals, funding for an individual who has complex health needs, dog fouling, and speeding through the village.

  1. Myself and Joanne Edwards (LAC) have  been involved with support from Alex (St.John’s Church) with Nomads and the volunteers from the Rugby/Cricket clubs coordinated by Richard Harries.  There is to be a Christmas Dinner made by the guys in Nomads, delivered by volunteers on the 13th. Of December (Sunday).  I have contacted all recipients who are delighted (unfortunately the are two people who have deceased since the Sunday Lunches).  I have applied to the Coop for help with this project and am awaiting confirmation of that help.  The Primary School are involved with making Christmas Pictures for people, Asda are also involved.  The Police Leaflets giving telephone numbers of Charities in our area who are able to help will also be delivered.  I would like to put on record thanks to all involved for making Gowerton a caring community and one I am privileged to represent.
  2. I am in negotiations with regard to lighting the lane from Mount Pleasant to the village which will add to the safety of the area.
  3. There is great concern in the area with the increase of anti social behaviour with some young people with incidents in the village.  It is important to ring 101 if you are concerned and inform our local Policing Team.
  4. The Traffic Surveys requested for Cecil Road and Gorwydd Road have been completed and I am awaiting information on these.
  5. I have a meeting arranged in the Conservative Club with Peter Carey looking at a project to help people of the village during the Christmas period.
  6. The new initiative of a Health Walk has started in the village – this week is the third week of this event.  We meet in the Elba Sports Complex’s car park at 10.00 am on a Wednesday morning.  Risk Assessment has been completed and advise that suitable shoes be worn because quite muddy on the footpaths. Last week we had approx. 10 people who attended enjoyed by all.

The announcement this week will affect many of the local businesses in Gowerton and I would like to emphasise the need to support them as much as we can and shop local, use take away facilities and promote their goods.  We as a village have been very fortunate to be able to buy products locally from businesses that have supported us.

I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and look forward to a better NewYear and a safe 2021 to all.

73.  TO RECEIVE THE REPORT OF THE CHAIRPERSON

Cllr Paul Emmerton was unwell and gave apologies for absence. No report was received at this meeting.
